Isomalt

In its pure form Isomalt is a white crystalline solid.

This chemical is used as a food sweetener in clear candies and sugar glass.

Isomalt is in essence a sugar, but without the typical chain of rings structure of many complex sugars, and with a less preferred bond, this makes digestion harder and so prevents the sugar making its way into your body.

As with any powder you should avoid getting it in your eyes or lungs, so wear goggles and don’t breathe it in.

As with any sugar Isomalt is flamable and under the right conditions explosive.

Isomalt because of its incomplete digestion may give you diarrhoea when eaten alone or in excess.
