Propane

In its pure form Propane is a colourless odourless gas and is flammable.

The chemical is used as a foaming agent and propellant in foods like whipped cream or products like shaving foam, styrofoam and many aerosols though it’s most common use is as a fuel often in conjunction with Butane.

This hydrocarbon is compressible and stable under a wide range of conditions with little impact on flavour.

Propane poses no direct risks when consumed in the small quantities dissolved in food, however its liquid form may cause cryogenic burns to the skin, you can feel some of the effect of this when using whipped cream and shaving foam as the can may become cold.

As a gas it may pose hidden dangers as it both displaces air and is highly flammable when mixed with air so should be used in a well ventilated area.
